I'm having issues in game where I have framerate freezes that will last for 3–5 seconds at a time. It happens when (but not limited to):

Engaging a raid boss

Killing a raid boss

Mid–fight (I have come to the conclusion that it happens randomly due to the fact it can happen to any given fight, and at any given time)

It had also happened when I looted, gained an achievement, opening a new in game window such as the character tab, talents, world map; but this has since diminished to next to never happening after 4.0.6. However, the frame spikes persist when I raid, and appears to be solely raiding as of now.

I have tried deleting the WTF and cache folders, that does nothing.

I have seen this occurring to other people in other threads, but their problems were all identical in the fact that they had a specfic Asus HD, I have an Acer, so their solution I don't think will solve mine as they apparently had replaced their HD entirely.

My computer specs:

Windows 7 64bit

i7 1.6GHz processor

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Video Card

4 gb RAM

If anyone other then blizz who is very knowledgeable with an issue such as this, I'm open to suggestions to help me fix this problem.

EDIT: this in fact is NOT occuring with just raid bosses, it's happening when I engage players as well as raid bosses.

EDIT2: I thought I was off the hook with looting, but apparently, it's not the case as of today. the frame freeze while looting is not nearly as long as say a boss engage, but it's certainly present.

EDIT3: After playing today, I realize it is not just raid bosses, but dungeon bosses as well.

Aphøtic,

Let's get the game back to the default settings next. You can do that temporarily and not lose any customization you've done.

With the game closed please rename your WTF folder to WTF.bak and INTERFACE folder to INTERFACE.bak. Delete the Cache folder entirely. These hold setting info and temporary cache files that will be recreated by the game the next time you launch. Renaming them allows you to rename them back later if this step doesn't resolve anything.

NOTE: Please also make sure to remove any and all addon auto–installers or auto–updaters you may have, as those can automatically reinstall addons for you, possibly causing further issues.

Now start the game up again, agree to the TOU and set your resolution. See if the issue is still there. If it is, none of this helped and you can put it back like it was by exiting, deleting the newly created WTF and Interface folders, and renaming the.bak ones back to their original names.

But if the issue is fixed, it means it was a setting or addon most likely

If none of that helped, verify your on the latest video drivers: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx

If that doesn't help, check to see if you have a program called Gamer OSD by Asus. If you do, please uninstall it.

If all that doesn't help, post your dxdiag info and config.wtf file.

You can generate your dxdiag info by using the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start

Click on Run

Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)

Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it all here.

The config.wtf file is in your World of Warcraft\WTF folder.

Aphøtic,

Your video drivers are almost a year old, so I'd start with updating them.

Try downloading and installing these: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx

If you can't install them, it's likely due to Acer not letting you use drivers not coming from them, in which case you'd have to check their site for newer ones. I can't get their site to load right now so I can't see what they have.

Aphøtic,

Those video drivers are both from 2008, they're not going to be any better. That page is also for an Acer TravelMate 3230. Your dxdiag indicates you have an Acer Aspire 7745G, for which this is the download page: http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1{_amp_}modelId=2131

On that page, there's only one video driver listed for ATI so that's what I'd try. They're still dated early 2010 though and may not fix everything.

Aphøtic,

Lol, I dropped the last «1» from your link, you're right.

The SP for Win 7 is just a compilation of all the updates they've released since introduced. If you've been updating regularly, it shouldn't do much for you.

Aphøtic,

I think the issue you're experiencing is actually one already being investigated, and discussed in this thread (now locked unfortunately): http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2059016233
