Daragon,

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start

Click on Run

Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)

Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste the dxdiag file into your reply.

Daragon,

World of Warcraft does not use the OpenCL that's included with APP. You won't see any difference between the two suites in WoW.

That said, I don't see any reason to not install it. You may have other programs on your system that can make use of it.

Daragon,

Driver File Version: 8.17.0010.0029 (English)

Driver Version: 8.740.0.0

Driver Date/Size: 5/17/2010 07:06:18, 591872 bytes

You shouldn't be getting a message saying your drivers are already up–to–date with the one listed in your DxDiag. There may be some kind of driver corruption affecting the results. Try uninstalling the current drivers and then run the driver updates again. Drivers can be uninstalled from Add & Remove programs in the control panel or from the device manager.

Daragon,

Thanks for the update. Lets test for possible overheating issues:

A quick and easy test is to open the side of the case and point a house fan into the case. This will cool the system 8–10 degrees, thus making a good test for too much heat build up. You should also make sure that there is not a lot of dust built up in the fans. This can restrict the fans from working properly, which then leads to overheating.

Here's a tool you can download to monitor the system's temperature:

http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

Start the monitoring tool before you launch the game. Note down the current temperatures for the CPU core and the GPU core. Then leave the tool running and start up the game. Try playing for about 5 minutes and then minimize the game and check where the temperatures are at now.

Let me know what happens.

Daragon,

It looks like your card is only getting up to 54°C. That should be fine.

Try to set WoW to run in OpenGL mode. This mode uses a different method to display graphics which tests the Direct3D on the system.

  • Click Start
  • Highlight Programs
  • Highlight World of Warcraft without clicking on it.
  • Right click on the World of Warcraft icon
  • Click Properties
  • In the Target field, add '–opengl' after the last quotation mark
  • Example: «C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Launcher.exe» — opengl

  • Click OK
  • Try the game now with the icon you just modified.
  • Note: This will put WoW in an unsupported state as WoW does require Direct3D; however for testing purposes it is a valuable step.
