For the past few weeks, I noticed that whenever I played Starcraft 2 my computer would get louder but I assumed it was due to poor ventilation so I would play for short periods of time. I KNEW it had to be Starcraft 2 cause the noise would stop instantly after I quit the game.

But one day, less than 5 minutes after starting up Starcraft 2 and in the middle of a game, my screen froze and the image looked like a broken mirror. So I reset my computer, and is that broken text on my bios screen?

So I boot into Windows and… nothing. The video card isn't outputting anything. Crap.

Reset the computer, boot into Windows under VGA mode. I get in, ok good. Possibly salvageable. Lets up the resolution… crap. Blank screen. Reset.

VGA mode again, lets ask online. Lo and behold, I'm reading reports about Starcraft 2 frying people's video cards.

So tell me Blizzard, did your game just destroy my rig? Tell me its not your game and I won't be mad. Tell me its your game but its some bizarre series bad circumstances and I won't be mad. But tell me its your game because you didn't fix a known problem, and I'm gonna be pissed.

Anything with GPU acceleration can kill a video card, games included. It really depends on why your video card started making loud noises to begin with. It's usually a big warning sign if it starts happening and it didn't do that before. Did you check up on it?

When a video card or computer part 'overheats', it won't emit burn smells unless the manufacturer used really cheap plastics or if a capacitor pops. The damage happens to the internal logic so that the stuff that it tries to work with gives different answers or does nothing at all anymore. I would look into what Spiff said, though. Warranties would be good at this point.
