I'm playing on a late 2010 Mac pro, quad core Intel xeon, 3gb ram, nvidia 1gb video card

I've noticed that in certain areas, only when facing a specific direction, my fps drops significantly.

These areas include;

Twilight highlands, howling fjord, battle for gilneas, western plaguelands, uldum, dragonblight

Haven't seen my fps go below 60 anywhere except for those areas, and as soon as I turn even a tiny bit away from the one direction its back up to 60.

Do I need to upgrade my ram? Or is this a known issue?

I believe this is a part of the Camera Stutter Issue where FPS drops when it turns. The areas you descripted is where it hits the hardest. This is something that is being addressed.
